End of the Semester!

Well today was the last day of finals for Erin and me. I am glad that the tests are all done and that we get to play for a week in seattle. I feel that i dod really well in my classes. I m sure erin did also.  We are just killing time now, Erin's dad and little brother are in town and so they are staying with us. we are helping her little sister move back home for the summer, and then we are going on to seattle for a week of apartment hunting. we are also going to go visit the office and go tour the Microsoft campus expansion project that mortenson is building in seattle. we are also going to play tourist when we are there! I want to go to a mariners game also if we can. so i am excited for all sorts of good pictures for us to post here in the near future!

On another note our laptop took a nose dive last week and then today i got it back from the shop and its officially dead! they had 4 different techs look at it and so we are so glad that we got that computer form dad otherwise all our pictures and documents would have been lost! We lucked out a lot on that one!

This is the greater seattle metro area. We are looking all over just depending on where I work at exactly.
If I work up north on the providence hospital then we will be up in this area
we are trying to stay in this area though in the central part of the city.
if I work south then we are looking in this area

Nothing Exciting

Erin has baby fever and she made a really nice baby blanket
Erin's car also finally hit 200k, it only took 18 years, and she has had it for five years and has only put on 40k Wow Also below are my wickedly cool Twilight tattoo! yeah for you Meagan! hehe

Well it was a normal march day in Rexburg today. We woke up to a blizzard, and not the dairy queen type! we went to school, came home and did homework and then we ate dinner and did more more homework. I have not been doing a whole lot beside projects and tests. We are really excited to go to Seattle soon! it will be fun to see David and Carol you never know maybe I will become his mountain bike partner? Hopefully the snow goes away because I am getting really sick of it.

Because I am just trying to fill up space I will talk about my group projects, We are scheduling and estimating an assisted living center that actually is under construction in Rexburg. so far it is a lot of fun we are almost done. then that same group we have to plan, estimate, and schedule a breakfast for 22 people and try to sell our idea to the class. if they pick our idea then we actually have to do it (the department gave us a budget). Then I have another group project in my marketing class where we have to come up with an add campaign for Pita Pit here in Rexburg. I also have to come up with a schedule and estimate of anything I choose.
I registered for my last semester last week! I am taking Statics & Strengths, Biology Lab, Advanced Writing, D&C, and a Woodworking class for fun! we are going to make a fancy wall clock! Well I don't have much else to say.

Reno

Well I got back from the 2008 assoicated schools of construction student competition in Reno, Nevada at 3:00am this morning. It was a crazy weekend, we left Rexburg on the BYU-Idaho bus at 3:00 am on wednesday. We had a 12 hour bus ride, I cant even begin to tell you how crazy it was. I stayed up the night before so that i could go to sleep on the bus (lets just say that it backfired badly!) then when we got to the Nugget we unloaded and got to our rooms and had to set up our 6 laptops, and then also the 2 printers and move the beds in to the corner and get set up for the compitition at 6am the next morning.

I was competiting in the Heavy Civil category. there were a number of other categorys also, Residential, Commercial, LEED, Pre-Construction, Design Build, BIM, Mechanical, Marine, and a Graduate category! it was crazy there were I think 30 Universitys that participated in our region, there are other 5 other regions also competing this weekend across the country.
we went to an opening banquet that night where all 1200 students had an amazing catered dinner with ribs, chicken, rolls, and so much more plus desert. of course it was all you can eat, which was awesome. then we heard from the sponsers and what not. then we went to bed! I woke up at 5:00 am and got ready for the competition and then we wet as a team and got our problem along with the other 11 teams in our catergory. our little team of 6 was awesome we did really good for what we were given.
we got the most unpredictible unforseen crazy problem Kiewit has ever given! we were expecting a long road and a few bridges but instead we got the Bolsa Chica wetlands restoration project. a 550+ acre oil field on the ocean in HB california. I actually served my mission next to it in HB. We were supposed to estimate how much it would cost to turn this nasty swamp and oil field into a lush flooded wetland, with access to the ocean. It also had to have a canal built from the ocean to it so in high tide it would flood, then that made it so that the Pacific Coast Highway had to be rerouted and have two new bridges made. all this while trying to stay at least a 100 feet away from any of the thousands of endangered birds that inhabited the area. I was the Chief Estimator on the team and so it was my responsibility to evaluate exactly how much it would cost to do all this! it was crazy we had to bring in boulders from catalina island 25 miles offshore. that part was only 9.5 million, then we brought in a 8.3 million dredge, and then a crazy 20 million for the bridge, overall I estimated it to be 76 Million overall. We ended up hiting the bid right on the nose which was really exciting. we started the project at 6am and had to turn in our our bid and schedule at 10:30 PM. the crazy part is we had 6 guys and 10.5 hours to do what 4 guys did for kewit in a month! It was crazy intense and stresful. it was really fun though!
We also had to do an oral presentation to the Kiewit judeges and had to back up our estimate and schedule. we didnt do as well in this department. if we had a better presentation we would have won. I really enjoyed it and all the fun things we were able to do. I even got to hang out with some of the Mortenosn people and talk to people at the carrer fair about Mortenson in the booth.
Well I think that my novel has gone on long enough!
This is a bad picture but we had a door plaque made for the competitionThis is a picture of our "war room" we spent the entire competition in here! This shows the plans that we cut out and put on the wall, our plans had almost 400 pages, and our specification sheets had close to 1000 pages! This is part of my team, in the background you can see the mess we made in the hotel room! This is the Bid opening meeting where we got the problem and they did a little explanation of the project.I know thease pictures are hard to see and understand but this was an artist rendering of the actual project. This was our deadline we had to work with.
I sent erin flowers for V-day
